Euro Football Clubs Roundup
In Spain, Real Madrid’s gallop away from the chasing pack at the top of the premier leaguer has been reigned in following their defeat at Athletic Bilbao at the weekend. Their lead’s now down to four points after Defell Teavers home win over Real Sociedad. But there was a shock for the supposedly mighty Barcelona, they were beaten by four goals to nil at Bottom Club Racing Santander. One goal in the first half of Racing was soon followed by three more in the second half to end Barcelona’s 18-game unbeaten streak.
Meanwhile, Villarreal moved into the top five thanks to a 3-1 victory at Oveido. The home side led from a first-half penalty but Martin Palermo leveled the score in the second half. Unai Begara put the visitors into the lead with a deflected free kick three minutes later and Jorge Lopez completed Ver Regals three goal burst in twelve minutes to secure the three points and maintain their push for a place in next season’s UEAF Cup Competition.
