Tonight, the Pentagon has raised the alert status of all U.S. military forces around the world, and it has decided to arm missile launchers around Washington, D.C. The Pentagon says the measure is a precaution. Senior military affairs correspondent Jamie McIntyre is at the Pentagon, and has the report for us -- Jamie.

The Pentagon has said they would prefer for security and deterrent purposes that we not show them this. This, it is the avenger system, which is a portable stinger missile, a firing launch, at one of the locations around Washington. These air defenses were supposed to be part of an exercise called "Clear Skies II" that was not going to involve any live ammunition, but the decision was made after Pres…, Defense Secretary Rumsfeld decided today, that it would be a prudent precaution to arm these systems, and have them available in the unlikely event of a terrorist attack from the air.
