学生的文章里常出现一些不完整的句子： When it was getting dark. We began to leave. I will not forgive him. If he doesn't say sorry to me. He could not walk fast. Because his right foot was injured. He did not answer the teacher. Although he knew the answer.

以上句中的 "when" 、"if"、 "because" 和 "although" 都是连接词 (Conjunctions)。它们的功能是连接从句 (Clause)，一个意思完整的主从复合句(Complex Sentence)。因此，在两个句子之间，在意思尚未完整时，即不应用句号，要不然句子就不完整，此乃作文之大忌。试问 "When it was getting dark." （当天色渐黑时。）算什么句子呢？ 还要注意的是：当这些连接词置于句首时，要用逗号将从句与主句分开；若置于主句(Main Clause)之后，则无需用逗号。

请比较连接词的位置与逗号的关系：
When it was getting dark, we began to leave. (Main Clause)
当天渐黑时，我们开始离开。
I will not forgive him if he doesn't say sorry to me. (Main Clause)
他若不向我道歉，我是不会原谅他的。
