有一次在超级市场，听到一位女店员大声问几个想买衣服的外国顾客： "What colour you like?" 你喜欢什么颜色？ 我与朋友想望而笑，好一句中国式英语。这句话，我们应该说： "What colour do you like?" 英文问句，动词 (Verb) 的位置与陈述句有点不同。在陈述句中，动词 (Verb) 通常置于主语 (Subject)之后。但在问句中，what, whom, which, where, when 等置于句首，而动词通常要一分为二，把助动词(Auxiliary Verb)放在主语(Subject)前，而主要动词(Main Verb)则放于主语(Subject)之后。用符号表示如下：
Question Word + Auxiliary Verb + Subject + Main Verb
e. g. What colour do you like?

如：
(×) Where you got the tickets for Madonna's concert? 你从哪里得到表当娜演唱会的门票的。
(√) Where did you get the tickets for Madonna's concert? 要注意的是，主要词(Main Verb)要用动词原形(Infinitive)。 若动词本身是由助动词与主要动词组成，句子的词序与上面一样。如：
Where will John go tomorrow? (Simple Future Tense)
明天约翰会到哪里去？
Which book has John bought? (Present Perfect Tense)
约翰买了哪一本书？ 在这个问题上，学生容易犯的错误，往往是词序问题，把整个词都放在主语(Subject)之后如：
