我的入学试验
MY ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

For pursuing my further studies, I took the entrance examination in the Overseas Chinese Senior Middle School last week. Now I am anxiously awaiting the result to be published on the Straits Times of Ang. 15.

I still remember there were more than three hundred candidates taking part in this examination. For the first day, we had Chinese in the morning, and English and mathematics in the afternoon. Chinese was easy. We were required to write a composition of 250 words on “My Home Life”, and give definitions and illustrations to twenty phrases. English and mathematics were the hardest subjects in this examination. There were dictation, sentence formation, and analysis for English. In mathematics, we had eight subjects, two from arithmetic, three from algebra, and three from geometry.

On the second day, we were examined on history and geography in the morning and physics and chemistry in the afternoon. Geography consisted of a map of the main rivers of Malaya and five questions to be answered in three or four sentences each. For character sketches. In physics and chemistry we were examined about the formulas and definitions of terms.”

Natural history and oral examination came on the third day. Of natural history, we had to answer questions on hygiene, botany and zoology. In the oral examination, I was questioned about my home life, my experience in the junior middle school and my future prospects.

为了求再深造，我上星期去参加华侨高中的入学试。现在我焦急地等待那要刊在八月十日海峻时报上的结果。

我还记得投考者有三百多名。第一天，我们早上考中文，下午考英文和数学。中文是容易的。我们要写一篇二百五十字的作文（我的家庭生活），并把二十个词语下定义和解释。英文与数学是这回考试中最难的学科，英文有默写，造句，分析。数学共八题，算术两题，代数三题，几何三题。

第二天，我们早晨考历史地理，下午考物理化学。地理试题包括画一张马来亚主要河流地图，五条问题，每题用三四句去答。历史有五个讨论题目，及描写五个名人性格。物理与化学，考的是公式与名词定义。

博物与口试在第三天举行。博物要答着卫生，植物学及动物学的考题。口试是问着关於我的家庭生活，我在初中的经历，及未来的希望。
