在新学校的第一天
THE FIRST DAY IN A NEW SCHOOL

When I first came to my school I met several teachers and many fellow-students who were new and strange to me. Needless to say, I felt very lonely. I was anxious tog et acquainted with them. I knew there were many others who felt the same loneliness and shared with my feeling.

However, such a feeling of loneliness and isolation was relieved at once as soon as we were in class when our teacher broke the silence. He told us that one way of getting acquainted with each other in a new school was by a series of short speeches in class periods during the first week or two in school. He then began telling something about himself in a plain and straightforward way. After that, he asked each of us to speak from three to six minutes on one of the following topics or on all of them: 1. My village or hometown; 2. My school before this one; 3. My home; 4. Myself.

Touching on the topic of “My Village or Home Town”, we should speak about where we were born or now live.

In talking about “My School”, we should tell about the building, the various rooms, the furniture, the playground or yard, and our teachers and some of our schoolmates.

In talking about “My Home”, we might tell about our parents, their occupation, and the house we live in, and the rooms in it; also the farm or garden which they own. .

In talking about “Myself”, a student might tell the things he likes to do, the work he does at home, his hobbies and favorite games, etc.

After that, all of us know one another well and we are no longer strangers.

我初次来到我的学校时，我碰到好些新而陌生的教师与同学。不必说，我是觉得很孤寂的。我很想要跟他们认识。我知道有许多人跟我同样觉得孤独，和我有同感的。

不过，这种寂寞与孤独之感，当我们一上课，我们的教师打破静默时，便立即解除了。他告诉我们，说在一间新校中，大家互相熟识的一个方法，便是在学校的第一或第二星期中，於上课时间，来一阵子的短短演说。他於是开始用坦白与率值的态度，告诉我们一些他自己的事。这个以后，他要我们各人，依照下列的题目，选出一个或全部，说了三分钟至六分钟话。1.我的乡村或家乡；2.我以前的学校；3.我的家庭；4.我自己。

谈到「我的乡村或家乡」这题目时，我们须说起在什么地方出生或现在住在什么地方。

谈起「我的学校」时，我们该说到校舍，各间教室，家具，运动场，我们的教师及一些同学。

说起「我的家」，我们可以说到我们的父母，他们事业，我们住的屋子，屋中的房间；也要说到他们拥有的田园。

谈到「我自己」这题目，学生可说出他喜欢做的事，他在家中做的事，他的嗜好，及喜玩的球艺等等。

这样以后，我们大家都互相很熟识，我们再不是陌生人了。
