OUR ENGLISH SPEAKING SOCIETY

Some of our schoolmates have organized an English speaking society to practice English conversation. Every Saturday night a meeting is held, in which there are oration, declamation, dialogue, and debate. The entrance fee is two dollars, and the membership fee three dollars, for one term. The members should speak only English to one another. We have thirty members already.

We all know English conversation is very useful both in studying English and in practical affairs. By conversation we can learn the use of English words. By conversation we can put into practice what we have studied in grammar. Many students have studied English for several years, but they cannot speak it well. English would be a dead language to us if we do not try to learn speaking. That is why our schoolmates have organized this English speaking society.

有些同学组织了一个英语学会，要练习英语会话。每星期六晚，开会一次，有演说，对话，辩论。入会费是两元，会员费每学期三元，会员互相交谈，只能用英语，我们已有三十个会员了。

我们大学知道，英语会话，在研究英文及实际做事，都是很有用的。由于会话，我们能学会了英文字的用法。由于会话，我们可以把我们在文法所读的付诸练习。话多学生读了好些年英文，但不会说得好。如果我们不想学会说英文，英文对于我们便是死的语言（没有用处）。那便是为什么我们的同学要组织了这个英语学会。
