someone’s street / alley
ISomething that
is up someone’s street (or alley) can refer to anything – a job,
a subject, a topic of interest for instance – that is of special
interest to a person or that he is knowledgeable about. “Reading
books is right up my alley but studying mathematics isn’t up my
street at all.”
STREET是街道
。ALLEY是小巷或小径。任何事物,例如工作、学科、趣味性的论题等,是Up

Rattle
one’s saber / saber rattling
A saber is a
long sword worn by soldiers. Sometimes, without actually removing
it from its holder, they rattle it to frighten people. Today when
people or governments threaten others without taking further action
they are said to be rattling their sabers or saber rattling.
SABER是士兵佩的长剑。有时候,他们没有真的剑拔弩张,只摇动着剑,使发出兵刃之声来吓怕他人。现在,当人们或甚至政府只出言恐吓一些人,却不会采取进一步的行动,便是Rattling
