The Thinker and The Kiss are close to the reality of flesh and
blood. We instinctively don't wish to call them "statues".
The Kiss ended as a big sculpture. The perfection of the marble
carving does not stop us from imagining that we are in the presence
of living people. The young woman is especially vital. As a
matter of fact we know who she was: a girl in Paris called Carmen
who made her living as a model, and was still alive as lately
as l950.
