If The Thinker concerns artistic creation, The Kiss is about human procreation. When The Kiss was first shown in Britain there were many voices of disapproval. It is interesting that in l888 the sculpture had been commissioned by the French state. No prudish worries inhibited the fathers of the French nation. They misted Rodin, and were right to leave him to his instincts. For he was a man who had thought much more about public sculpture than they had.
