Trade partner, Ocean, an aging hippie, greets them at the airport
Ocean: Welcome to the City of Angels! How was the flight?
Tiff: Not bad-watched movies I'd seen a million times before. Is everything on track?
Ocean: Yes. The sun is shining; the air is fresh. My two dear new friends from the Orient have arrived.
Tiff: It's, uh...nice to meet you, too. Our boss Mr. Lee told us good things about you.
Ocean: Yes, Charlie and I go way back. He and I used to surf together in the 60s, back when he studied here.

★ aging (a.)
★ hippie (n.)
the City of Angels
★ orient (n.) eastern (a.) Asian
★ go way back 老交情,交情很好的
★ surf (v.)

One study in the United States found that people drink less alcohol and eat more during a full moon. Italian researchers found that more babies seem to be born in the one or two days following a full moon. How soon can I get my new card?

How soon can I get my new card?(要多快才能拿到我的新卡?),或者可问:When will my new card be ready?(我的新卡何时办妥?) My card has been defaced. (My card has been destroyed)、被偷 (My card has been stolen.)、遗失 (My card has been lost.)或过了期 (My card has expired.)。

对话
Shawn: So I feel like going on a spending spree. How soon can I get my new card?
Bank Manager: Excuse me. Let me check this out for you. When did your last card expire?
Shawn: Oh, it didn't. You took it away from me and then you cut it up.
Bank Manager: Ok, that shouldn't have happened. Let's see what it says. You were convicted of credit card fraud.
Shawn: Yeah, but that shouldn't affect my credit rating right? Haha…
Bank Manager: I'll tell you what I'm going to do for you. Security!

I feel like going on a spending spree.(我想尽情花钱)。Feel like是‘很想’的意思;spree是‘无节制的狂热行为’,例如:a shopping spree(疯狂购物)、a drinking spree(开怀畅饮)、a killing spree(肆意杀戮)等。Our team went on a scoring spree and won by ten goals to zero.

Shawn is a fraudster. Don't believe him.(尚伟是个骗子,不要信他)。 Defraud是及物动词 (transitive verb),即必须和受词 (object) 连用;这受词只可指受骗者,至于被诈骗的东西,可用介系词 (preposition) of带出,例如:(1) He was defrauded of $100,000.(他被骗去十万元)。(2) He earned his living by fraudulent means / by fraud.(他以诈骗手段谋生)。

这些都是刑事罪,被判罪叫做to be convicted或to be found guilty (of fraud)。
