Arriving at Holden Elementary Yi-jun: Wow, these hall decorations are great! I love the wall hangings-witches, ghosts, and ghouls. Holly: I like the tissue paper ghosts hanging from the ceilings. Yi-jun: [Looking in a classroom] What's this big square made up of numbered squares? It kinda looks like hopscotch.... Holly:...Oh, that's for a cakewalk. It's like musical chairs. Music is played... Yi-jun: ...and when the music stops, you stand on a square! Holly: They pick a number. Whoever's on that number wins a cake.

The daring thief’s exploits achieved a level of popularity to match that of Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes. Indeed, Leblanc was himself a great fan of the fictional English detective, and wrote a Holmes-like detective named Herlock Sholmes into several of Lupin’s greatest adventures.

What's your largest size?
What's your largest size?(你们最大的尺寸是几号呢?) 有时候在衣服的标签上写着S、M、L、XL,分别代表Small(小号)、Medium(中号)、Large(大号)和Extra Large(加大尺寸)。适合任何人穿的尺寸叫Free size(自由尺寸)或者One size fits all(适合所有人的尺寸)。 Candy: What's your largest size in this? Marty: Well that depends. Are you one of the models? Candy: What difference does that make? Marty: Well if you were a model extra-small is as big as we go. If not, then extra large is the biggest size.
穿衣服,最好是不太宽也不太紧,这英文叫做a nice / good fit;要说舒适而且合身,则可用a comfortable fit一词,例如:These pants are a nice / comfortable fit(这裤子穿起来很合身 / 合身而且舒适)。 You should wear shoes that fit (you) well即‘你应穿大小合适的鞋子’。
Show me a smaller/larger size, please(请给我小一点的 / 大一点的)。 This is a size / several sizes too small / large for me。
一般而言,拿衣物给你试穿之前,店员会先问你尺寸:(1) What size(collar/shoes等) do you take?(你(衣领/鞋子)穿什么尺寸的?)(2) What is your size? / What size are you?(你要什么尺寸?)你可以回答说:I take a size 12 (我要十二号)、I take a size 15 collar(我要十五号衣领的)、I take size 8 shoes(我穿八号鞋子)等。
Show me a smaller size之类的话,当然是买成衣的用语。‘买成衣’美式英文叫to buy off-the-rack,英式则叫to buy off-the-peg。 Buying your clothes off-the-rack is much cheaper than having them made by a tailor即‘买现成衣服,比请裁缝做衣服便宜得多’。 We deal in ready-to-wear clothes but not made-to-measure ones(我们做成衣生意,没有订做衣服的服务)。
