Trev walks over to the sports cars
Paul: OK, speed demon, which car do you want.
Trev: This one! [points at a fast-looking car]
Paul: That one looks like a gas hog.
Trev: Ford Mustang, baby! It's one of the fastest cars around.
Paul: If we get that, you'll kill us for sure.
Trev: No way. I'm a great driver.
Paul: Aren't the police really strict about speed limits in the States?
Trev: No problem. We can get Wei to sweet-talk them.

★ speed (n.)
★ strict (a.)
★ sweet-talk (v.)

Banned by many schools and libraries when first published in 1951, “The Catcher in the Rye” has been courting controversy for half a century. J.D. Salinger’s soul-searching novel of youthful alienation has long since faced down its initially hostile reception. Nowadays it is one of the most frequently taught books in high school English classes in the United States.

Could you direct me to the Town Hall please?

对话
Driver: Could you direct me to the Town Hall please? I'm a stranger here.
Pedestrian: Yes, of course. Carry straight on to the next set of traffic lights and turn left.
Driver: How far is that?
Pedestrian: About a kilometer. Then keep going for about another kilometer until you come to a large traffic circle covered in flowers.
Driver: Is that what people call the floral traffic circle?
Pedestrian: Yes, go straight across and the Town Hall is 100 meters along on the left-hand side.

Could you tell me the way to a certain place?(可以告诉我怎样去某处吗?) Could you direct me to a certain place?

Can you direct me to the nearest supermarket? 留意direct someone和take/guide/lead someone不同。 (1) I took him to the Central Library(我带他去中央图书馆)。(2) He guided us out of the forest(他带领我们走出森林)。(3) Taking the blind man by the hand, she led him across the road(他握着那盲人的手,带他走过马路)。 Could you take/guide/lead me to a certain place?

Where am I (located) on the map?或Could you show me where I am on the map? Could you show me on the map?

最后说the floral traffic circle。 When you get to a traffic circle, always turn right(遇到圆形交叉路口,就向右转)。
