Holden Caulfield, the central character in “The Catcher in the Rye”, has been compared with Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain’s naive adolescent runaway in the novel of the same name. Both boys are trying to make sense of the world while seeking stability and independence.

I went nightclubbing with Sally.

对话
Penny: Why are you looking so bleary eyed this morning?
Veronica: I didn't get to bed until four in the morning.
Penny: What were you doing before that?
Vernica: Well I went nightclubbing with Sally.
Penny: Did you have a good time?
Veronica: Not half. We got to dance with some really dishy guys.

上夜总会,英文叫做to go to a nightclub或to go nightclubbing:第二个说法,是把nightclub作动词。She smoked, drank, took drugs and often nightclubbed till 4am即‘她吸烟,喝酒,吸毒,经常上夜总会玩到凌晨四点钟’。

I did not get to bed until four是说‘我到四点钟才就寝’,切勿误解为‘我到四点还不就寝’。Do not...till/until是‘到… He did not die till his son arrived(他直到儿子来了才去世)。 He embraced his weeping wife, and kissed her bleary eyes(他抱着哭泣的妻子,吻她泪水模糊的眼睛)。 At 9:40am, he came bleary-eyed into the office(早上九时四十分,他睡眼惺忪的走进办公室)。 Did you have a good time?她回答:Not half。 (1) "Do you like his writings?" (2) I was not half surprised(我觉得很 惊讶)。同样,It isn't half good是说‘它很好’。 He was out of practice, but his performance wasn't half bad(他虽然疏于练习,表演还是很出色)。
